Continuing Education Requirements for the State of Michigan

Requirements for license renewal for RNs and LPNs Advanced Practice: Approved Providers: Failure to meet requirements:

Continuing Education: 25 Contact Hours within the two years preceding an application for renewal or relicensure.

1 Hour of Pain and Symptom Management.

All continuing education requirements may be obtained by Home Study.

For other acceptable continuing education options, contact your Board of Nursing.

 

All Michigan licensed nurse anesthetists must have obtained recertification within the 2 years immediately preceding the expiration of their license. Nurse practitioners must have obtained recertification or maintained certification or have completed 40 hours of CEU's in the nursing specialty field, within the 2 years immediately preceding the expiration date of their license. Licensed Nurse Midwives must have completed within the 2 years immediately preceding the date of application, the continuing competency requirements of the American College of Nurse-Midwives.  

Approval from other Boards of Nursing
The (Michigan) Board approves and adopts by reference the standards of the American nurses credentialing center's commission on accreditation.
NURSING EDUCATION OF AMERICA® is Accredited as a Provider of Continuing Education in Nursing by the American Nurses' Credentialing Center Commission on Accreditation (ANCC).

A nurse who is unable to provide evidence of completion of the continuing education requirements, when requested, is in violation of the Michigan Public Health Code and subject to one or more of the following possible license sanctions: reprimand, probation, denial, suspension, revocation, limitation, restitution, and fine.
